Barbra Streisand Praises Lady Gaga & ‘A Star Is Born,' Plus: Her Excitement Over Granddaughter on the Way
Barbra Streisand has seen the new “A Star Is Born” starring Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga, and she “loved it”!
Lady Gaga had some big shoes to fill in the remake as an up-and-coming singer, previously played by Judy Garland in 1954, and then by Streisand in 1976.
“Extra's” Renee Bargh caught up with Streisand at a recording studio in Malibu, where she praised Lady Gaga's performance, saying, “Of course I've seen it. I loved it. I think it is wonderful. She is wonderful.”
She went on, “Bradley told me he spent months with her working to see her real self. I call her Stefani. I can't call her Lady Gaga, but I understand why she calls herself Lady Gaga. I understand that person. I think it is great... they are going to have a big hit.”
Streisand also talked about her family and the excitement over stepson Josh Brolin and wife Kathryn Boyd's baby on the way.
“A lot of women don't want to be called 'grandma.' I'm proud of that. To become a grandma is a mark… I'm proud to be one. I can't wait to for this little girl.”
Barbra is also busy with new music – her album “Walls” goes on sale Nov. 2, and she just released the new single, “Don't Lie to Me.”
Streisand said the song could be about a “relationship gone bad,” but it was inspired by the election. “I was in shock,” she said, describing President Trump as someone who “doesn't respect the truth.”
She explained, “I feel that the truth is so powerful… how do you believe anything he says? Words don't mean anything because the next day they change... about the same subject. So for me, words have meaning, facts matter.”
Barbra also shared her thoughts on Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, saying, "It is horrific the way they are trying to push him through… I hope things change in these midterms. I really hope women claim their power, the power of their voice, their feelings.”
She insisted, “Each voice is a vote, and please go out to vote.”
