Renée Zellweger Talks Acting Break... Does She See a Baby in Her Future?
Actress Renée Zellweger is back on the big screen in "Bridget Jones's Baby" after a nearly six-year hiatus from Hollywood.
She recently chatted with “Extra's” Terri Seymour in London, where the star opened up about her decision to take time away from Hollywood.
Renée shared, “It was time, it was time, I wanted to do some other things that there's not a lot of time for when you're caught up in the cycle of making films, 'cause they tend to overlap… there's not a lot of time to develop other skills… it's a pretty big commitment, it's a happy fun commitment, but I wanted to learn some other things. She added, “I did some pretty great things.”
"Bridget Jones's Baby” was twelve years in the making with Renée saying, "It was a process.” Co-star Colin Firth added, “It's like herding cats trying to get everybody in the right place at a certain time.”
This time, Bridget is a career-driven single woman in her forties, caught in the "who's the daddy?" drama with her longtime love, Darcy (Firth), and Jack, played by Patrick Dempsey.
Is a baby something that Renée, 47, wants in her life? She revealed, “I've never really thought like that about anything in my life, really. I've always been kind of open to whatever. Maybe curious... about to see what's next. I've never been deliberate about what would make me happy in my life.”
Renée is currently in a relationship with musician Doyle Bramhall. Her character, however, is trying her hand at some online dating, but Zellweger can't see herself taking that on in real life. “That would be hilarious… I did go to a wedding last year and I did learn what Tinder was, and we sat and went through my friend's Tinder page, which is pretty incredible... I can't imagine.”
She can imagine why Bridget Jones resonates with so many women, believing that we all have a little bit of her in us. “She triumphs over her imperfections... and she makes it okay to be imperfect, she make it okay to be human.” Colin chimed in, “She's not quite as hopeless as she looks a first glance.”
“Bridget Jones's Baby” is in theaters September 16th.
