This Is How Jim Parsons Explained Sheldon to Iain Armitage
Iain Armitage is truly the breakout star of the past year, appearing as Ziggy in “Big Little Lies” and landing the lead role in “Young Sheldon”!
Now he's covering the latest issue of emmy magazine and dishing on his career.
Opening up about playing a range of roles, the 9-year-old said, “It's really weird. I go from being this innocent and almost kind of creepy kid Ziggy to this super child prodigy who doesn't understand basic emotions.”
Armitage already has a good handle on his acting method, revealing about how he gets into character, “I guess what I do is, I keep a little bit of myself in my character, but then it's almost like [working in] a bakery. I take a little bit of flour and butter and milk and eggs, and mix it all up to make different cakes. Some cakes are bitter, and some are kind of sweet. Some make you want to laugh and laugh, and some make you cry and cry.”
As fans know, Iain had some big shoes to fill when he took on the role of Sheldon Cooper in the “Big Bang Theory” prequel “Young Sheldon.”
He revealed that Jim Parsons, who plays Sheldon in “Big Bang,” had some advice for getting into the character's mindset.
Armitage explained, “This is one of the many things Mr. Jim said about Sheldon: If there are two paintings, and one is wild and super splotchy and the other is neat, orderly, rainbow-colored, Sheldon would like the neat, orderly one. That explained a lot. It got me in the mindset of Sheldon.”
Of course, first and foremost, Armitage is a little boy. He told the magazine, “I love having fun… and if it's not fun, I don't do it.”
