Mariah Carey Pays Musical Tribute to George Michael
Mariah Carey devoted one song from her March 31 concert in Dubai to the late George Michael, Us Weekly reports.
"This is George Michael," she told the crowd, "one of his greatest records. I always loved it, and I always loved him — he was a really great person."
Before launching into an emotional version of Michael's #1 hit "One More Try" from 1988, Carey willed herself the strength not to cry, saying, "Let's hope we'll make it through this."
She also encouraged fans to shine lights on their phones "just for him."
Back in 2014, Michael tweeted Carey to thank her for recording his song, calling her "one of the best voices in the world." Carey responded by tweeting to Michael that it was an honor, telling him she was a "Fan&friend for life."
Michael died at 53 on Christmas Day 2016. Due to uncertainty over the cause of death — eventually ruled to be from dilated cardiomyopathy, myocarditis and fatty liver disease — Michael was not laid to rest until this past week.
