Maksim Chmerkovskiy & Peta Murgatroyd Returning to ‘Dancing with the Stars'
One week after debuting their son Shai, dance couple Maksim Chmerkovskiy and Peta Murgatroyd have announced they are coming back to “Dancing with the Stars” for the upcoming season.
On “Good Morning America” Tuesday, Peta said, “I am definitely a little bit nervous, but I am very excited to get back. I have definitely missed the dance floor. I haven't been able to defend my title with Nyle [DiMarco], so I want to get back out there.”
Peta took a break from the last season to prepare for Shai's arrival, and will now need to get back into shape for the upcoming season. She shared, "I just want to be healthy. It's going to take a little bit longer, I think, to get back up to the fitness I was doing and had before. I think it's going to be okay. I am going to take it slowly and hopefully I have an awesome partner to go through this with.” Watch!
During the interview, Maks brought some attention to their dance floor rivalry, saying, “I don't know if everybody remembers the history, but last time we were together on the same season, I won. I don't care how many [mirror ball trophies] she has. We'll see what happens.”
As for how fatherhood is affecting his love for dancing, Maksim said, "I was always wanting to have kids and never thought it would be like this. You can't just stop staring at this little person. This is the only difficult part about coming back on the show this time, because it will take time away from being with this dude.”
In the new issue of Us Weekly, Peta joked about how her post-baby body will affect her on the dance floor. The breastfeeding dancer said, “I'm not looking forward to having huge boobs on the show. I've never had massive knockers before, and I don't really know how we'll tie them down! I actually contacted the costume designer and said, 'We need to have a meeting about this!'”
“Dancing with the Stars” returns on March 20.
