'Catfish' Subject Ashley Sawyer Dead at 23

Ashley Sawyer, from Season 2 of MTV's “Catfish,” has died. She was 23.
Sawyer passed away in Alabama, according to TVLine. No cause of death was given.
Her shocking death comes three years after her online crush, Michael Fortunato, passed away.
When Ashley and Michael met face-to-face for the first time on the show, they realized they had catfished each other for seven years. They remained friends, but Fortunato tragically died from a pulmonary embolism a month after the show aired in 2013. He was 26.
Hosts Nev Schulman and Max Joseph paid tribute to Ashley on Twitter.
Nev wrote, “So sad to lose both Mike & Ashley. I hope they are happy & together now where nothing can hurt them.”
Max added, “Shocked and saddened by the death of Ashley Sawyer. So sweet and kind. Thoughts and prayers go out to her family.”
MTV also released a statement, saying, "MTV is deeply saddened to learn that Ashley Sawyer has passed away. Our condolences, thoughts and prayers go out to her family and friends."
