Derek Jeter: ‘Retirement Is Good’
Former New York Yankee Derek Jeter is retired and loving it!
“Extra's” Renee Bargh caught up with the athlete at the 15th Annual Harold and Carole Pump Foundation Gala, where he talked about life off the baseball diamond.
Jeter revealed he doesn't miss playing baseball, adding, “Retirement is good… I highly suggest it to everyone.”
The 41-year-old is staying busy. “I'm busier now than I was when I was playing, but physically retired which is good.” He was recently spotted vacationing with supermodel girlfriend Hannah Davis, and has launched his own multimedia digital company called “The Players Tribune.” “The Tribune has been getting a lot of notice of late, we're extremely proud of it, it's something we started for the athletes and they seem to be enjoying it.”
One thing Derek won't be doing now that he is retired is starting an acting career. “Oh God, no,” though he did dabble a bit with a couple of cameos. “It's much harder than what I did, I think to do anything in Hollywood, so I'll stick with what I know best… I have the utmost respect for them, that's a lot of work.”
Jeter is helping charities as well, and was honored by the Harold and Carole Pump Foundation for Cancer Treatment and Research. “My younger sister was diagnosed with cancer 15 years ago. She beat it, and you know it's dinners like this that help that out.”
