Steve Irwin’s Father Finds Heartfelt Letter from Crocodile Hunter Nearly 10 Years After His Death
Bob Irwin, the father of Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin, is opening up about his famous son in a new memoir, “The Last Crocodile Hunter: A Father and Son Legacy.”
The memoir includes a heartfelt letter that the wildlife expert wrote to his parents, Bob and Lyn, when he was 32. According to the BBC, Bob didn't find the letter until earlier this year when it fell out of a book.
In the note, written 12 years before his death, Steve wrote, "Probably one of the most unfortunate things in a 'Bloke's Life' is that it takes over 30 years to realize how essential you have been to build my character, my ethics and, most importantly, my HAPPINESS. At 32, I am finally starting to figure it out. In good times and in bad, you were there. Your strength and endurance to raise me will not go unrewarded. My love for you is my strength! For the rest of my life I will reflect on the unbelievably GREAT times we've shared and will continue to share. You're my best friends!"
The envelope holding the letter, said, “Please be happy to know that your strength and wisdom have been passed on.”
The 44-year-old star died on September 4, 2006 while filming a documentary in Port Douglas, Queensland, in Australia. He was pierced in the chest by a stingray.
Irwin left behind his parents, wife Terri, and children Bindi, now 18, and Robert, now 12.“The Last Crocodile Hunter: A Father and Son Legacy” goes on sale October 25.
