Marcia Clark Takes Blame for 'Physically Painful' O.J. Simpson Verdict
On tonight's "Dateline" special "The People vs. O.J. Simpson: What the Jury Never Heard," prosecutor Marcia Clark sits down with correspondent Josh Mankiewicz, and takes the brunt of the blame for the surprising verdict that set O.J. Simpson free 20 years ago... but she doesn't let the jury off the hook!
Calling the trial's outcome "physically painful" — Simpson was found not guilty and freed after circus-like proceedings that captivated the world — Clark says she spent time thinking about victims Ron Goldman and Nicole Brown Simpson.
Asked if she blamed herself, Clark tells Mankiewicz, "You know, I always do — I do. I mean, I was the one trying the case."
Clark does feel the jury in the racially charged, celebrity-tainted case was inflexible, and says, "There was no way to reach that jury, there was no way to make them believe — there really wasn't."
