Issa Rae Helps Shine Spotlight on Small Businesses, Plus: She Talks ‘Insecure’ and Kamala Harris
Issa Rae is gearing up for “Insecure” Season 5!
“Extra’s” Rachel Lindsay caught up with Issa, the show’s star and creator, who teased what’s ahead. Rae also shared how she’s helping shine the spotlight on small businesses this holiday season, and her reaction to Kamala Harris as our new vice president.
Issa dished on “Insecure,” “We are getting ready, we’re gearing up to shoot very, very soon… I’m really, really excited about Season 5… The story that we’re telling I think is extremely relatable, and it’s about a subject we don’t really talk about a lot, so we’ll see.”
Many small businesses have been hit hard during the pandemic, and Rae is partnering with American Express to help put the spotlight on shopping small this holiday season.
Issa said of American Express, “So, they have Small Business Saturday. They have been doing it for 11 years. It is really an opportunity for people to shout out their favorite small businesses by tagging them, and I’ve been able to do the same with my favorite places, specifically with a place called Queen boutique, which I’m supporting today. Lin-Manuel Miranda is doing this as well. I’m excited to see which ones he shouts out, because I will be flocking to those.”
Small Business Saturday is Nov. 28! Visit the American Express website here, or @ShopSmall on Instagram to learn more.
Rachel asked Issa about Harris’ history-making win as our first Black female vice president, and she said, “One of the phrases that I appreciate that I also wholeheartedly believe is ‘You can’t be what you can’t see,’ and I think with Kamala in this role… That is huge… I think it’s so important to see ourselves in these positions of power.”
