Matteo Bocelli on His Father Andrea’s COVID-19 Diagnosis, Plus: His Take on a Disney Classic
Matteo Bocelli is opening up about his famous father Andrea Bocelli's COVID-19 diagnosis and new music.
“Extra's” Jenn Lahmers caught up with Matteo, who was at home in Italy, one of the first countries to lock down after the coronavirus outbreak.
Andrea shocked many when he revealed he had contacted coronavirus early on. He didn't go public with the news until the end of May when he and his wife Veronica Berti donated plasma. Matteo said, “He got it with, luckily, no symptoms.”
Matteo also gave Jenn an update on Italy, saying, “Everything… is coming back to normal.” He shared, “All our respect goes to those people who are still fighting against the virus.”
The 22-year-old singer, who performed a duet with Andrea on “Fall on Me,” also talked about coming from a musical family. He said of his famous father, “I've been listening to his voice since the first day of my life.”
Matteo has his own take on the Oscar-winning song “Can You Feel the Love Tonight” for the new album “Disney Goes Classical.” He told Jenn, “We recorded this song in October, so when everything was still open and accessible in London, and then we recorded a second time here at home.”
He confessed, “I was born with Disney, and 'The Lion King' has been the very first animated movie that I watched.”
Matteo broke this news, too: “At the end of this year, [I] will be out with a solo EP… You can expect, of course, a surprise… having a dad that sings classical, but I want to keep it a surprise, a secret.” He did reveal, “The project is more a pop sound.”
The “Disney Goes Classical” album will be out October 2.
