In a statement released on her Instagram, Hartridge “was involved in an accident yesterday and passed away.” The post continued, “We all loved her to bits and she will never be forgotten. She has touched so many lives it's hard to imagine things without her. She was a very special person."
According to the London Metropolitan Police, who did not confirm her identity, “a woman in her 30s had suffered serious injuries” after being involved in a collision between an electric scooter and truck.
The Guardian reported that the crash was Britain's “first fatal collision involving an e-scooter.”
On the same day that she lost her life, Hartridge took to Instagram to clap back at trolls, who asked if she was a man. She said, “I don't believe there are such things as 'Manly' or 'feminine', what a crock of💩… I have never adhered to societal norms and I am certainly not going to start now 🙅🏻♀️.”

She emphasized, “Whenever I get comments like this, I just think how sad that you are constantly scrolling on your computer or phone looking for someone to upset whilst we are out in the REAL WORLD living our lives 😁.”
Hartridge made a name for herself on YouTube, posting videos about sex, relationships, love, and life. She had over 350k subscribers. In her YouTube bio, she wrote, “The main purpose of my channel is to make you laugh and also throw in a bit of honesty because let's be honest (pun intended), life is JUST too short.”
In her last YouTube video, Hartridge gave 10 reasons why to get a younger boyfriend. The video even featured her boyfriend Jake gifting her an electric scooter for her birthday. He said, “This is the one you can use to work.”
One of her most viral YouTube videos, from 2013, features her explaining why one should have sex with one's ex.
After news broke about her sudden passing, YouTube tweeted, “We're deeply saddened to learn about the tragic loss of a truly talented British creator, Emily Hartridge. Our thoughts and condolences go out to all of her loved ones and fans.”
Hartridge's boyfriend Jacob Hazell took to Instagram to mourn her death. He said, "I've had so many messages from people wanting to check my well-being. For all those who care about my recovery, I'm fine and I just wanted to say thank you for all the nice messages."
He continued, "Emily was the person who encouraged me to talk about how I was feeling. So I just wanted to put a video out here because it seems the easiest way to say thank you and let people know that I'm OK.”

Her friend London Hughes tweeted, “Yesterday my whole road was blocked off with police tape due to a road incident, I walked past the scene and thought hope the person's ok... turns out the person wasn't okay. My friend is dead and now I feel completely sick. Rest in peace Emily hartridge.”
On Monday, as previously scheduled, the U.K. Department of Transport met with shareholders to discuss the legalization of e-scooters in the country; as of now, they are only legal on private land.

Deeply saddened to see this on Instagram. I met @emilyhartridge on a train 5 years ago, and by the end of the journey we'd shared all sorts of things about our mental health and insomnia. She was funny, kind, and open-hearted. My deepest sympathies to the Hartridge family 💔 pic.twitter.com/NTuoXW9puV

Devasted to hear about the tragic death of @emilyhartridge. I had the pleasure of working with Emily multiple times over the years. Emily was constantly spreading positivity. Apparently she was struck by a lorry whilst driving an e-scooter. Horrible news 😪
