Blake Hints at What Really Happened with Miranda, Reveals How He Fell for Gwen
Blake Shelton is shedding some light on the demise of his marriage to Miranda Lambert, and how he began to develop feelings for current girlfriend Gwen Stefani.
In a candid new interview with Billboard about his album "If I'm Honest" the reporter asked if the lying and cheating lyrics to “She's Got a Way with Words” are about Miranda. Blake, who didn't write the song, didn't argue with the assumption.
He did say, "When we recorded the vocals for some of these songs, I was only six months removed from when all the crap went down. When you have a broken heart — at least, when I do — you got to get it out of your system. You want people to sympathize with you. I was at rock bottom, in the middle of hell."
Shelton also insisted fans "can learn some facts of my divorce” by listening to the album. “Maybe not specifics, but you can get a general idea about it."
The country star revealed that he stayed with fellow “The Voice” coach Adam Levine during the split. "As close as we have been, we got even closer,” he said of Levine.
Shelton said he decided to tell the rest of his colleagues when they started filming Season 9.
"I won't forget that day," he said. "I looked over at Gwen — who I didn't really know — and she had these huge tears in her eyes. I thought, 'Wow, she feels super bad for me!'"
Blake later learned that Gwen was also in the middle of a divorce from Gavin Rossdale, and that created a bond between them.
Shelton explained, "It went from that, to checking in on each other once a week through email — 'This sh*t happened to me, what happened to you?' — to maybe three times a week, then every day, to, 'Hey, here's my phone number if you ever want to text.' Next thing I know, I wake up and she's all I care about, and I'm wondering if she feels the same about me.”
He believes the No Doubt singer "saved my life."
"Who else on earth could understand going through a high-profile divorce from another musician?" he asked. "You can't even imagine the similarities in our divorces."
