Jon Bon Jovi Dishes on Hall of Fame Honor, Reveals What He Would Say to Trump If He Had the Chance
Jon Bon Jovi has a lot to celebrate! The legendary singer is being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, recently released new music, and he's going on tour!
“Extra's” AJ Calloway caught up with Jon to find out more!
Joking about his Hall of Fame honor, he said, “It's about time.” Bon Jovi added that the whole group is excited. “Every kid who ever strummed a tennis racket or broomstick in the mirror hopes to be in a band. One in a billon of those gets to be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.”
The rocker is unsure what he will sing for the ceremony, but he said one thing is for sure: “We're going to have a big party.” He also confirmed that former members Richie Sambora and Alec John Such are invited. “They'll be welcome to join the band onstage and perform.”
Bon Jovi is currently performing the spring leg of their This House Is Not for Sale tour. Jon told AJ they will travel “coast to coast for a couple of the months.” He is ready to belt out his new and old hits, saying, “I am in really good shape vocally these days, so I think we can get deep into the catalogue.”
The tour ends in Washington, DC, but Jon said not to read into it. Weighing in on the current state of the union, he said he is “disappointed.” The star revealed what he would say to President Trump if he could. “I would tell him honestly that even if he didn't write it or believe it, when he said that he was going to be the president for all the people of this country, he should go back and reread his inauguration-day speech online, because he is certainly not representing himself as the president of all the people of this nation.”
Trump's presidency inspired some of Jon's new music, including one of his new songs called “Walls.” He explained, “It's obvious it's about the social situation right now.” He shared some of the lyrics with AJ, like, “This chasm between us is getting wider.” Another song called "When We Were Us” is about the band. “It talks about 'your past is your past, just deal with it.'”
Jon also talked about Oprah and the buzz about her possibly running for president. “Everybody's always respected Oprah from different walks of life. Whether you are an entertainer or not, she touches a nerve with a lot of people over generations, she's a very wise woman and she's lived a life. If there is anything we have learned from the current resident of 1600, you don't have to have a political background. These days the mark has changed, so if somebody is wise, they can go out there and sell themselves as somebody who makes a difference.”
He just announced the new spring dates for their THINFS tour — tickets go on sale January 19 — and Bon Jovi will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in April.
