Kerry Washington Explains Her Own ‘Oprah Moment' on ‘Scandal’ Set
Last night, “Extra's” Mark Wright was on the red carpet at the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood, where the cast of ABC's “Scandal” did a reading of the series finale to benefit the Actors Fund.
To celebrate the finale, star Kerry Washington gifted the entire “Scandal” crew, sharing, “I put together a post-'Scandal' survival kit... One day, every crew member got a bouquet of flowers sent to their home and another day they got fancy Meyer cleaning supplies. On the final day, everyone got these wonderful sleep trackers and then I said one lucky crew member would win a mattress. But then when they picked the name out of the bowl, the name was 'everyone,' so I got to have an Oprah moment!”
Kerry was “feeling excited and grateful” about the end of the series, walking away with valuable life lessons. She commented, “Olivia Pope taught me to be courageous and to know that there's always a way through. Even when you feel like you don't have options, and you feel like you're at the end of the road, there's always a way out and a way through.”
Mark also asked series creator Shonda Rhimes if she had long been planning for the end of the show. Shonda revealed, “Yes, I did, I always knew this show had an end date... I'm really proud because we ended exactly how we wanted to end.”
