Matthew McConaughey Talks His 47-Lb. Weight Gain for ‘Gold’
Matthew McConaughey had to transform into a completely different person in his latest film “Gold."
The Golden Globe-winning actor opened up to “Extra's" AJ Calloway about transforming into balding, heavyset businessman Kenny Wells. Of gaining 47 lbs. for the part, he said, “I started living like Kenny Wells… All of a sudden, I noticed my pants weren't fitting and I got on the scale and put on 20 and I wasn't even thinking about it.” Smiling, he said the key to gaining massive amounts of weight in a short period of time is, “You say yes to everything!”
Did consuming beer and cheeseburgers get old? “I'm telling you,” he said, "for six months, I did not get tired of them. No, I never got tired of them.”
Matthew's family didn't get tired of it either! “Oh, they loved it. My nickname was Captain Fun,” he revealed. He added, "Pizza night on Friday nights… well, this week it's Monday, Wednesday and Thursday as well.”
In “Gold,” Kenny Wells is a prospector desperate for a lucky break. He teams up with a similarly eager geologist and sets off on an amazing journey to find gold in the uncharted jungle of Indonesia. The 47-year-old said he loved the script "from the first read.” He also said, “This is the kind of movie I want to see. I knew guys like this growing up. My dad would take me around the country, door-to-door, to collect money from people that owed us money… My dad would take me to those behind-the-abandoned-shopping-mall deals… My dad loved those kind of deals; he was a hustler.”
Matthew also commented on the political landscape, saying of Donald Trump, "I'm going to do all I can to get behind the President of the United States of America. These are really interesting times, obviously. We have a lot of work to do, and this is going to be a very interesting four years; things aren't going to change overnight."
