Kathie Lee Gifford Talks Loss and Love Ahead of New Romantic Comedy ‘Then Came You’
Kathie Lee Gifford told "Extra" she had a great time working with Craig Ferguson on their new movie, “Then Came You,” but the TV host has also suffered some huge losses of late — Kathie's husband, NFL great Frank Gifford, passed away in 2015, and just recently she lost her close friend and former co-host Regis Philbin.
“Extra's” Jenn Lahmers caught up with Kathie Lee and Craig, who opened up about the romantic comedy.
Gifford plays a widow named Annabelle, who falls for a Scottish innkeeper played by Craig.
Kathie Lee explained, “Loss is loss. Everybody's details are different, the power of it is the same. It's real, the deeper you love somebody the greater pain you're going to feel when you lose them.”
Jenn commented that Kathie Lee and Craig's chemistry was great. Kathie Lee said, “I wrote this movie for Craig, and I tried to harness the chemistry we already naturally, authentically had.”
Craig added, “Even though it has me in it, it's good. That's what I'm surprised at.”
Liz Hurley also stars as Craig's fiancée. Kathie Lee explained, “I had given her the script when we were at the 'Today' show and I said, 'It's probably unprofessional of me, but I don't want to go through your agent. I don't have time. I'm old. Tick-tock. Let's get this movie made.'… And she said, 'I'll get on the plane and read it.' She called right away and she said, 'I'd love to be in this movie.'”
Jenn complimented Gifford, saying, “The men are going to be asking if you're single or if you're dating because you're looking good as always, but you're showing off the gams...”
Kathie Lee smiled, saying, “Oh, I got some gams. That's about all I got left. I still have my teeth. I'm just looking for a guy that's got real teeth. That's it.” In all seriousness, she shared, “I have dated a little bit... it has not been successful.”
“Then Came You” drops September 30.
