Did Mariah Carey Just Diss Eminem? Plus: What She Revealed About Derek Jeter
Singer Mariah Carey, 50, has a lot to say in her new memoir “The Meaning of Mariah Carey,” but did rapper Eminem make it into the book?
Mariah and Eminem were rumored to have had a fling in 2001. Carey recently told New York Magazine, “There's some songs that I can sing in response to that, but I will not do it. If somebody or something didn't pertain to the actual meaning of Mariah Carey, as is the title, then they aren't in the book.”
Last year, Eminem dissed Carey and her ex-husband Nick Cannon in his song with Fat Joe. In the song, Eminem claimed that Carey had Cannon “neutered.” He raps, “I know me and Mariah didn't end on a high note / But that other dude's whipped — that p— got him neutered / Tried to tell him this chick's a nut job before he got his jewels clipped / Almost got my caboose kicked / Fool, quit / You not gonna do sh— / I let her chop my balls off, too, before I lose to you, Nick.”
Nick and Eminem's feud has been going on for a decade. In 2009, Eminem bashed Nick and Mariah in his song “Bagpipes from Baghdad.” Mariah responded by releasing “Obsessed,” even dressing up like Eminem in her music video.
At the time, Nick bashed Eminem in a blog post, saying that Eminem is “still obsessed with my wife, the same female that wouldn't let him get to second base from 8 years ago.”
Carey may not talk about Eminem in her memoir, but she does open up about her romance with famed Yankees star Derek Jeter. Confirming what many fans already knew, her single “The Roof” was about her first meeting with Jeter, who she was linked to in 1998.
Recalling their first kiss on the rooftop of his apartment, she told Vulture, “I can never forget that moment. I mean, it's not like it was some intensely deep, intellectually stimulating — again, it was a great moment, and it happened in a divine way because it helped me get past living there, in Sing Sing, under those rules and regulations.”
At the time, Mariah was over her marriage with record exec Tommy Mottola.
Carey also revealed that her hit song “My All” was inspired by her relationship with Jeter.
