On Tuesday, Schwimmer posted a pic with Zoe while they protested in New York City, where many were fighting for justice after the killing of George Floyd.
He wrote on Instagram, “We're no longer a couple, but @zoebuckman and I are parents of a nine year old, and fellow advocates for social justice and reform. We marched in honor of the countless black lives lost to racial violence; to oppose the institutional racism and systemic bias against marginilized communities; to show our love for, and solidarity with, our family members, colleagues and friends of color; because we are angry and appalled by the shocking indifference of our President; and to demand a better future for our children. ALL of our children.”
He reiterated, “It is not enough to be opposed to racism. We must be actively opposed to it.”
Zoe also shared more photos from the protest, writing, “No justice: no peace. (It was painful powerful beautiful. Everyone wore a mask. I love you NYC.) These are our streets. Keep showing up. It's happening. Black Lives Matter. 🖤 with my comrade and co-parent @schwim.”
Zoe and David are the parents of daughter Cleo, 8.
In January, Schwimmer opened up about his history with social activism. He told The Guardian, “My mom was a very vocal, groundbreaking feminist activist lawyer [and occasional actor]. So my earliest memories of theatre were watching these feminist productions that my mom was in and being on the picket line with my parents and fighting for women's rights and gay rights.”
He added, “That's the environment I grew up in. I'm very aware of my own privilege as a heterosexual white male whose parents were able to pay for a private education for me. I've always felt a sense of responsibility to give back and to call things out if I see an abuse of power.”
As for his relationship with Zoe, David revealed, “We've worked out a way to be really respectful and loving and caring and flexible in terms of our co-parenting. Just making sure Cleo was going to be okay and feel supported and loved was quite painful for everyone, obviously, but I can say now that she feels really safe and happy. And all three of us try to do things together.”
David Schwimmer & Zoe Buckman Are ‘Taking Time Apart’ from Their Marriage
View StoryDavid and Zoe called it quits in 2017 after seven years of marriage. At the time, they said, “It is with great love, respect and friendship that we have decided to take some time apart while we determine the future of our relationship.
