T.I. Receives Major Backlash Over Comments About Daughter’s Virginity
Rapper T.I., 39, admitted in a new interview that he keeps a close eye on his daughter Deyjah Harris.
During an appearance on the “Ladies Like Us” podcast, T.I. explained how important it is to him that Deyjah, 18, not have sex yet.
T.I. said he goes through extreme measures, even accompanying Deyjah to her gynecologist appointments every year. He said, “Deyjah's 18, just graduated high school now, and she's attending her first year of college, figuring it out for herself. And yes, not only have we had the conversation [about sex], we have yearly trips to the gynecologist to check her hymen.”
He revealed, “I will say as of her 18th birthday, her hymen is still intact.”

T.I. detailed their doctors' appointments, saying, “So we'll go and sit down and the doctor will come and talk and the doctor's maintaining a high level of professionalism. He's like, 'Well, you know sir, I have to, in order to share information' — I'm like, 'Deyjah, they want you to sign this... so we can share information. Is there anything you would not want me to know? See doc? No problem.'"
While doctors have explained that hymens frequently break without sex, T.I. said he was having none of that. He shared, “So then they come and say, 'Well, I just want you to know that there are other ways besides sex that the hymen can be broken, like bike riding, athletics, horseback riding, and just other forms of athletic physical activity.' So I say, 'Look, Doc, she don't ride no horses, she don't ride no bike, she don't play no sports. Just check the hymen please and give me back my results expeditiously.'”
Deyjah is legally an adult now, but T.I. is still trying to dissuade men from pursuing her. He said, “Who wants a virgin? Like, really? All that work.”
Throughout the podcast, hosts Nazanin Mandi and Nadia Moham joked that Deyjah was "a prisoner” and that somebody needed to “check on Deyjah.”
T.I. has been criticized over his controversial comments. “The Handmaid's Tale” actress Madeline Brewer tweeted, “This makes me feel physically ill. It's abhorrent. This isn't behavior to laugh at or joke about. The level of toxicity and malice and control he's exerting on his own daughters life and bodily autonomy and and privacy. I'm sick.”
Ellen Barkin added, “I have bad news for T.I. After 6 months of vaginal sex...my hyman broke.”

I'm gonna need everyone, especially men, to let go of this “viriginity/hymen/purity” concept. It's outdated, let it go. Virginity is made up. It doesn't exist. Shut the fuck up.
@briaruffen
So instead of celebrating the fact that his child lived another year, TI spends his time hyper-fixating on whether or not her hymen is intact? This is so overwhelmingly weird and toxic and he needs to be stopped
@sammyhammy727
asking a doctor to check your daughter to see if she has been having sex is humiliating & sick af.
@patrishaluxe
& you can't even always tell by a broken hymen. you can break your hymen by hurting yourself on a bike seat.
this is disgusting, possessive and controlling *whew*
@race_jones
"give me my results" first of all mf, those are HER results!! Like WTF
@ItsMeeeeeDreaB
That is just beyond possessive
@sajesoul
Deyjah hasn't publicly commented on the controversy, but she did like several tweets slamming her father for being “possessive.”
Deyjah, who has 1.4 million Instagram followers, recently expressed her disapproval of older men hitting on her. She wrote on Instagram, “I just want to quickly say that just because I'm turning 18 in June…that doesn't mean 1. that ya'll will even get the chance to lmaooooooo 2. more importantly, that still doesn't make it right for you grown a** men to try and get at me… I will still be A TEENAGER!!! if you're not ok with someone your age tryna get with your daughter, sister, niece, etc. then don't think it's ok with me.”
Earlier this year, T.I.'s son King, who is only 15, revealed on the family's VH1 reality show “T.I. & Tiny: Friends & Family Hustle” that he is already sexually active. T.I. addressed the double standard, saying, “I don't want any of my children to have sex before it's time for them, but who's to say when it's time? However, I will definitely feel different about a boy than I will about a girl. And that's just the God's honest truth. I don't think there's any father out there who'll tell you any different.”
Aside from Deyjah and King, T.I. is also the father of Messiah, 19, Domani, 18, Major, 11, and Heiress, 3.
