Ed Sheeran Confirms Marriage to Cherry Seaborn

In a 60-minute video interview with iHeartRadio's Charlamagne tha God, Ed confirmed he married girlfriend Cherry Seaborn. He made the revelation while discussing the lyrics of his song “Remember the Name.”

The song features the verse, “Watch how the lyrics in the songs might get twisted/my wife wears red, but looks better without the lipstick.”

Sheeran pointed out, “It was actually before me and Cherry got married and I knew that we'd be married by the point that the song came out. [I thought] 'Someone's gonna hear that and be like, "Oh, they're married!"' I didn't know how that would be construed, but obviously it's already come out.”

The radio broadcast of the interview special can be heard across more than 150 iHeartRadio stations nationwide at 8 p.m. local time.

It's not the first time Seaborn has been mentioned in one of Sheeran's songs; she was also the inspiration behind his hit ballad “Perfect.”

In February, it was rumored that Ed and Cherry had secretly tied the knot at their Suffolk, England, home over the holidays. At the time, The Sun reported, “Ed got married a few days before Christmas. It was very quiet — just Ed's oldest school pals, limited family and the priest. He wanted no fuss and he wanted it to be something entirely for them — just a tiny winter wedding… Neither of them were that fussed about making a big deal about it.”

When “Extra's” Tanika Ray sat down with the star last August, Sheeran hinted he might already be married. Ray asked when the couple planned to tie the knot, and he coyly answered, “Maybe we are.”

Tanika guessed that “maybe it happened in Thailand,” and Ed asserted, “Wouldn't have happened in Thailand, but maybe it happened.”

As for where it would have happened, Sheeran answered, “Probably UK… Home with the fam.”

Ed popped the question to Cherry in late 2017 after dating for more than three years. He posted a Polaroid-style pic, writing on Instagram, “Got myself a fiancé just before new year. We are very happy and in love, and our cats are chuffed as well xx."

Months before his announcement, engagement rumors were already swirling after Russell Crowe casually referred to Cherry as Ed's fiancée.

Over two years ago, Ed opened up about his relationship with Cherry, telling Zane Lowe, “This has been the first time I've ever actually had the time to fall in love properly. I've always got into relationships very passionately — I'm a redhead and also Irish." In the same interview, he admitted he was overdue for fatherhood, saying, "I wanted to be a dad, like, last year. I'm ready, I'm ready, let's go, let's — tour bus babies... little fat, chubby babies that just kind of walk around."

People magazine reports Sheeran met Seaborn when he was just 11, but they didn't start dating until 2015 when they both happened to be in Rhode Island.
