George Clooney Compares ‘Vilified’ Meghan Markle & Princess Diana: ‘We’ve Seen How This Ends’
Actor George Clooney is speaking out in defense of Meghan Markle, saying she's been “pursued and vilified” by the press.
Australia's Who magazine reports George made the comments while promoting his new film “Catch-22.”
The star drew comparisons between Meghan and the media's obsession with her late mother-in-law Princess Diana, who died in a car accident after being chased by photographers.
Clooney was appalled that an alleged private letter from the Duchess to her father Thomas Markle had been published.
He explained, "She's a woman who is seven months pregnant and she has been pursued and vilified and chased in the same way that Diana was and it's history repeating itself.”
He continued, "We've seen how that ends. I can't tell you how frustrating that is, just seeing them broadcast a letter from a daughter to a father; she's getting a raw deal there, and I think it's irresponsible and I'm surprised by that."
On a lighter note, Clooney, who attended Prince Harry and Meghan's wedding with wife Amal, shut down rumors he would be the royal baby's godfather.
"Oh, yes, I'll be the godfather of the royals, apparently," he said with a laugh, clarifying his sarcasm with a big, "No!"
The 57-year-old, who welcomed his children Alexander and Ella in June 2017, added, "I'm the father of twins, I have enough sh-- to deal with — literally!"
