Kylie Jenner Set to Become Youngest Self-Made Billionaire?
Move over Mark Zuckerberg, Kylie Jenner is about to break the record for youngest self-made billionaire!
Jenner covers Forbes' August issue features the 60 richest self-made women.
The magazine estimates the 20-year-old's worth at $900 million thanks to her Kylie Cosmetics company, endorsements, and television career. She will likely cross the billion-dollar mark next year. Facebook's Zuckerberg didn't make his first billion until the age 23.
The new mom, who just welcomed baby Stormi five months ago, opened up to the mag about launching her beauty company, which started with lip kits. “I think I struggled for a minute with finding something to do on my own," she said. "I knew I was passionate about makeup, but I didn't know I could have fun every day doing my job.”
She went on to explain, “I had an insecurity with my lips when I was younger so I turned to makeup to help me feel more confident.”
When the lip kits went on sale in November 2015, they sold out in seconds, but Kylie said it wasn't always smooth sailing.
“Starting a company on my own, and it being so big from the beginning, there isn't a lot of room for mistakes… I'm the face of my brand and I take responsibility for everything that happens.”
The mogul says her mother Kris Jenner played a big part of building the brand. “She teaches me something new every day about everything. She is my goals and each day I'm trying to take it all in. She has definitely been a huge part of the success of Kylie Cosmetics.”
She also hopes Stormi might inherit the family business, theorizing, "Maybe one day [I'll] pass this on to Stormi, if she's into it."
Kylie's best advice for anyone starting a business from the ground up is to “do something that you love.”
