Disney-Marvel's "Black Panther" is set for a $218-million debut at the North American box office this Presidents' Day weekend, Variety reports.
The film is doing twice as well as expected a month ago, and brought in $25.2 million from Thursday previews alone.
"Black Panther" is estimated to make $192 million for the three-day weekend, the highest-ever debut for a February release, and the fifth highest debut of all time.
The film stars Chadwick Boseman as King T'Challa, the ruler of the fictional African nation of Wakanda, a technologically advanced society. He does battle with Eric Killmonger, played by Michael B. Jordan, who seeks to dethrone King T'Challa. The superhero flick also stars Lupita Nyong'o, Angela Bassett, Danai Gurira, Letitia Wright and Daniel Kaluuya.
"Black Panther" was given an A+ from CinemaScore, making it the only Marvel film to achieve that grade other than "The Avengers" (2012).
