Kate del Castillo on the Backlash After Meeting with Mexico’s Notorious Drug Lord El Chapo
“Extra's” Mario Lopez sat down with actress Kate del Castillo at Universal Studios Hollywood to talk about her newest role, playing the First Lady of Mexico in the Netflix original 20-episode series “Ingobernable,” the Spanish term for “ungovernable."
When asked if people have moved on from the drama surrounding the meeting she and Sean Penn took with Mexico's notorious drug lord El Chapo in the name of artistic research, Castillo said, “No, they still come up and ask me what happened.” She goes on to disclose, “I am still working with my legal team in Mexico. You know, they don't support those kinds of meetings as an art form — which the United States does — and I'm an American citizen and I still can't go back to Mexico. I think a lot of people are uncomfortable because I'm doing the movie."
The seriousness of the situation has forced Castillo to shoot her new series in the United States. “It's all top-secret,” she said, and when asked if that includes the places they film, she added, “The locations are top-secret.”
