Melania Addresses Trump's Groping Comments: 'I Hope People Will Accept His Apology'
In a statement released Saturday afternoon, Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump's wife, Melania, largely absent from public view since her controversial RNC speech, urged the public to forgive and forget.
Melanie said of the comments, in which Trump bragged about grabbing women "by the p*ssy" and kissing them without consent, "The words my husband used are unacceptable and offensive to me. This does not represent the man that I know. He has the heart and mind of a leader. I hope people will accept his apology, as I have, and focus on the important issues facing our nation and the world."
Trump's running mate, Mike Pence, has said of Trump's crude speech, "I do not condone his remarks and cannot defend them."
Other top-ranking political officials have spent Friday and Saturday reacting to the political firestorm, with some standing by the nominee, some excoriating him but reiterating their suport for him in the election, and still others abandoning ship and asking that he exit the race.
