Is Beyoncé Calling Out Multiple Women with 'Becky with the Good Hair’?
Fashion designer Rachel Roy and singer Rita Ora have been the chatter since Beyoncé's “Lemonade” premiered over the weekend, but each has denied she was the inspiration behind the lyric “Becky with the good hair.”
On Tuesday, Rita wrote on Twitter, "I never usually address tabloid gossip but let me be clear, these rumours are false. I have nothing but the utmost respect for Beyonce. Let's continue enjoying Lemonade.”
In a separate statement, Rachel said, "There is no validity to the idea that the song references me personally. There is no truth to the rumors.”
If these two women aren't Becky, who could it be? According to Page Six, “Becky” is supposedly a number of women Jay Z was rumored to have hooked up with early in their relationship. A source shared, "I don't think Beyoncé is calling out one girl. It is many girls. The rumors have been around for years.”
The insider added that Jay Z has changed his ways since their daughter was born in 2012. “Beyoncé had the baby and was like, 'What am I doing? This is what my dad did to my mom.' She really looked at herself. Jay is now a great husband, and this is in the past. They went through a rocky patch but things are good again. The video is about finally coming to terms with her strength and their love.”
Another source said “Lemonade” was a strategic move for the power couple. "'Lemonade' is a movie crafted to drive sales. Jay and Beyoncé are entertainers at the top of their game. Do you think Jay would release her album on [his own] Tidal if it really was all about him? He is 100 percent behind this.”
Despite all the controversy, Jay Z is set to join Beyoncé onstage in Miami to help kick off her Formation tour on Wednesday. Daily Mail has obtained pics of the rapper relaxing with a close friend in Miami, just one day before the tour.
