Why Did Halle Berry File for Divorce from Olivier Martinez?
Earlier today, Halle Berry made headlines when she filed for divorce from her husband of two years, Olivier Martinez.
Multiple reasons are likely to blame for the split. A major factor was apparently the former couple's living situation. When they married in 2013, they had planned to move their family to France, however, Berry's custody battle with ex-BF Gabriel Aubry forced her to remain in Los Angeles to raise their daughter, Nahla. A close source told People, "Olivier never loved living in L.A. full-time. He just isn't happy in L.A.”
Another big issue was reportedly a struggle between career and family. An insider revealed, "Olivier is complaining that he and Halle are not spending much time together and that she is working too much. He never wanted her to sign on for [CBS's "Extant"] and Olivier was hoping they would focus on family time together after Maceo was born."
While Berry was busy with her acting career, Martinez is said to have been lonely. A source explained, "He complains he spends his days alone, or with friends. He doesn't understand why Halle wants to work so much and is still so focused on her career. Halle has instead been extremely busy, and Olivier, who has not been working, is very bored."
Martinez's temper may also have been problematic. This year, he was sued for shoving a carseat at an LAX employee. An insider added, "He has a violent temper. [Friends say] he has an out-of-control, hair-trigger temper."
At the end of their marriage, Berry and Martinez were apparently living apart. A source close to the two said, "Many times, Halle [had] been staying at the Malibu house and Olivier at the Chateau Marmont. They are much better when they don't spent too much time together. They have gone weeks without seeing each other, but then managed to patch things up again.”
The source added, "Even though they are married, they always had very separate lives.”
It has just been reported that Olivier has filed his own divorce papers with the help of lawyer Laura Wasser, according to TMZ. He is asking for joint custody of their 2-year-old son Maceo.
