Philip Seymour Hoffman Honored on Broadway As Suspects Appear in Court
The bright lights of Broadway were dimmed on Wednesday night in memory of three-time Tony Award nominee Philip Seymour Hoffman. The tribute was held the same night that three of four suspects were arraigned in a NYC courtroom on drug related charges linked to the actor's death.
About 200 fans gathered to remember the star outside the LAByrinth Theatre Company where Hoffman was a longtime member. As mourners held the candlelight vigil for the late actor, Broadway marquees were dimmed at 7:45 PM for one minute in the tradition of the Great White Way.
Rev. Jim Martin, a Jesuit priest and LAByrinth member told the crowd, "We come together tonight in a spirit of terrible mourning and incredible loss, but we also come together to celebrate a remarkable life."

Playwright and actor Eric Bogosian, a LAByrinth collaborator, told The Associated Press, "Courage was his forte, always. Phil set his bar on the highest rung, on a rung above the highest rung. He pushed himself relentlessly until finally his efforts virtually redefined the very endeavor we call acting. That's what he wanted. He wanted to rock the world."
Friends and family, including Hoffman's longtime girlfriend Mimi O'Donnell, will be attending a private wake and funeral for the “Hunger Games” star on Thursday and Friday.
The wake will be held on Thursday from 5 PM to 7 PM at Frank E. Campbell Funeral Home on the Upper East Side, and the funeral will take place before noon Friday at New York's St. Ignatius of Loyola Catholic Church.
Funerals for Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis and Aaliyah were held at the same church.
A public memorial is believed to be in the works.
Hoffman was found dead of an apparent overdose on Sunday. A needle was still in his arm and more than 50 glassine envelopes believed to contain heroin were found at the scene.
The medical examiner released the autopsy results on Wednesday, but determined the cause of death “inconclusive” pending toxicology reports.
Four suspects were arrested on drug charges in connection with the case. Three of the four were arraigned on Wednesday night. Robert Vineberg, accused of selling to Hoffman and others, pled not guilty to the felony drug possession with intent to sell. Meanwhile, Juliana Luchkiw and Max Rosenblum were charged with misdemeanor cocaine possession. TMZ reports that Luchkiw pled not guilty.

The fourth suspect, Thomas Cushman, was not charged due to lack of evidence.
