'The Voice' Finale! Winner Tessanne Chin Talks First Single, Future Plans and More
It’s official! Tessanne Chin is the winner of “The Voice” Season 5! The singer from team Adam Levine beat Jacquie Lee and Will Champlin for the top prize on Tuesday night’s finale.
Tessanne told “Extra” backstage that she was in “absolute shock” when host Carson Daly called her name. “It was an out-of-body experience. I heard him say my name and I was like, ‘No, he didn’t!’”
After her big win, Chin debuted her first single “Tumbling Down,” written by One Republic’s Ryan Tedder.
“I love it,” she said. “I love the angle he took with it. I love that it is a solid song. I feel like any song you give me, I will put my spin on it. It is a very cleverly written song because remember he wrote it with three people in mind, so I am looking forward to working with him [to make it] specifically for me.”
What’s next for Chin? “I want to go home for a little bit and be with my family, eat some good food, snuggle up, sleep in my own bed, and then I am ready. I am ready to go and ready to start doing this. No joking around.”
Backstage, Adam said he couldn’t wait to rub the win in Blake Shelton’s face and tell him to “Kiss my ass.” When it comes to Tessanne, he told “Extra” she doesn’t need any advice from him moving forward. “She knows what to do. No one is harder on Tessanne than Tessanne.”
The two-hour finale was part reunion as the top 20 returned to perform together and with the top 3 contestants, and part bonanza as superstars like Lady Gaga, Celine Dion, Paramore, Aloe Blacc and OneRepublic performed. Read our play-by-play recap here.
