‘Gravity’ Breaks October Box Office Records
The new space thriller "Gravity,” starring Sandra Bullock and George Clooney as two stranded astronauts floating through space, landed in the top spot on the box office charts with $55.6 million.
The film set a box office record for the month of October, beating the previous record holder "Paranormal Activity 3" which opened with $52.5 million in 2011.
“Gravity” also added $27.4 million from sales in international markets, for a combined debut of $83 million, distributor Warner Bros. said on Sunday.
Last week's box office winner, animated "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2," dropped to second place with $21.5 million, while the new Ben Affleck-Justin Timberlake drama "Runner, Runner” finished third after earning $7.6 million.
