Fred Willard Tells Jimmy Fallon Arrest Was 'Embarrassing as Hell'
Actor Fred Willard was having a little fun at his own expense Thursday night when he stopped by the “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon” show. From the get-go, Fred was game to talk about his recent arrest for lewd conduct at an adult movie theater in Hollywood.
“Jimmy, what do you want to talk about first?” he asked with a smile. “You know, let me say this: it's the last time I'm going to listen to my wife when she says, 'Why don't you go out and see a movie?'”
Fallon tried to get the scoop on which X-rated film Willard went to see, asking, was it “The Firm,” “Free Willy” or “Anaconda”? Willard joked, “No, sadly, it was 'Get Shorty.'”
The 72-year-old then got serious. “It's very embarrassing,” the “Best in Show” actor admitted. “It's embarrassing as hell. But let me say this: nothing happened. I did nothing wrong. Everything is being sorted out as we speak… if you're in the wrong place at the wrong time, everything looks suspicious.”
Willard can avoid lewd conduct charges if he completes a diversion program and pays a $380 fee, according to the L.A. City Attorney's Office. The scandal cost him his job with the PBS show “Market Warriors,” but he kept his gig on ABC's “Trust Us with Your Life.”
