Meet 'Extra Lean' Co-Author Jimmy Pena
Jimmy Pena received his master's degree in Clinical Exercise Physiology from the University of Texas at Tyler in 1998. He then published his thesis summary (on the effects of endurance training on muscle size and strength in competitive athletes) in the renowned journal, Medicine & Science in Sports and Exercise.
Jimmy served as the fitness director for Muscle & Fitness and Muscle & Fitness Hers magazines, and for over a decade has authored and edited over a thousand articles on training and fitness, making him the most published celebrity trainer in America.
In 2006, Jimmy designed the women's training programs for LL Cool J's New York Times Best Seller, Platinum Workout (Rodale Books 2006), and later that year served as creator and host of the Muscle & Fitness DVD series, THE ROCK-HARD CHALLENGE.
In late 2006, Jimmy began working with Mario Lopez, contributing to his book, Knockout Fitness (Rodale Books 2008), while also helping prepare his physique for appearances in People, TV Guide and FX's "Nip Tuck."
In 2009, Jimmy began working with movie mogul, Tyler Perry.
Jimmy is an ongoing resource for NBC's "Extra" and is a national fitness leadership board member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA), the largest Christian and Sports organization in the world.
Jimmy's future projects include "Extra Lean," Mario Lopez's nutrition book as well as PrayFit, a bodyweight-only fitness devotional and nutritional guide due out in late 2010 (Regal Books).
