Conan O'Brien Mocks Late-Night Rumors
"The Tonight Show" host Conan O'Brien joked in his monologue on Friday about the numerous rumors circulating about NBC's late-night line-up.
"There's a lot of speculation out there and I just want to go over just some of the rumors flying around," O'Brien explains.
He proceeded to list 11 reported and fictitious rumors.
"Jay [Leno] and I will be joining the cast of "Jersey Shore" as a new character called "The Awkward Situation," O'Brien joked.
He added, "I'm pregnant with Jay's baby,"
The funny man wrapped the list with the "rumor," "NBC is going to throw me and Jay in a pit with sharpened sticks. The one who crawls out alive gets to leave NBC."
"Trust me, that's an appealing proposition," O'Brien said.
On Thursday, NBC released a statement in response to reports that Leno's show would be pushed back to 11:30 PM and "The Tonight Show" would start at midnight.
The network said, "We have the best comedy team in the business. We remain committed to keeping Conan O'Brien on NBC. He is a valued part of our late-night line-up, as he has been for more than 16 years and is one of the most respected entertainers on television."
