Marjorie Lord, 'Make Room for Daddy' Star and Mother of Anne Archer, Dies at 97
Marjorie Lord, best known as the picture of elegance opposite comically frantic Danny Thomas on TV's "Make Room for Daddy" (1957-1964), has died at 97.
Lord, the mother of Oscar-nominated actress Anne Archer, enjoyed a 50-year acting career that began in the late '30s in film and spanned the early years of television. She retired in 1988, and was said to have preferred to bow out graciously rather than accept parts beneath her ability or dignity.
As noted by the L.A. Times, it was Lord's second act in life that would become her most fulfilling — she rebranded herself as a patron of the arts, co-founding the Scripter Award in 1988 in order to raise funds for USC libraries. Lord continued making public appearances at charitable events into her mid-nineties.
