Emmy-winning actor Reg E. Cathey has died, reports TMZ. He was 59. The site says Cathey passed away at his NYC home after battling lung cancer.
Cathey was best known for his role as Freddy in “House of Cards” and as Norman Wilson in “The Wire.”
He was nominated for three Emmys for his role in “Cards,” and won in 2015.
The veteran actor most recently starred in “Outcast” and Oprah's TV movie “The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks.”
“The Wire” creator David Simon remembered the star on Twitter, writing, “Reg Cathey, 1958-2018. Not only a fine, masterful actor -- but simply one of the most delightful human beings with whom I ever shared some long days on set. On wit alone, he could double any man over and leave him thinking. Reg, your memory is a great blessing."
