Miley Cyrus Seemingly Sings About Liam Hemsworth in Breakup Song ‘Slide Away’
On Thursday, singer Miley Cyrus released her new single "Slide Away" — could it be about her split with Liam Hemsworth?
The artwork for the single features a bottle of alcohol and pills floating in a pool.
In the track, Miley sings, “I want my house in the hills. Don't want the whiskey and pills. I don't give up easily but I don't think I'm down."
Is Miley hinting that she wants to move out of Malibu to a new home in the Hollywood Hills? We'll have to wait and see!
The song also seems to reference their Malibu home being lost in the wildfires last year. She sang, “Once upon a time it was made for us, woke up one day and it turned to dust. Baby, we were found, but now we're lost. So it's time to let it go.”
Cyrus also appears to discuss their future without each other, singing, “So won't you slide away? Back to the ocean, I'll go back to the city lights.” Liam grew up in Australia and loves spending time surfing, while Miley grew up with the city lights of Los Angeles.
Miley also seems to sing about how things have changed since she met him at age 17 on the set of “The Last Song.” She sings, “Move on, we're not 17, I'm not who I used to be. You say that everything's changed — you're right, we're grown now.”
Miley and Liam had been together on and off for the previous nine years. After the split, her rep said, “Liam and Miley have agreed to separate at this time. Ever-evolving, changing as partners and individuals, they have decided this is what's best while they both focus on themselves and careers. They still remain dedicated parents to all of their animals they share while lovingly taking this time apart. Please respect their process and privacy."
Days later, Liam released a statement on his Instagram, saying, “Just a quick note to say that Miley and I have recently separated and I wish her nothing but health and happiness going forward. This is a private matter and I have not made, nor will I be making, any comments to any journalists or media outlets. Any reported quotes attributed to me are false. Peace and Love.”

Miley and Liam have not filed for divorce yet. A source told People magazine, “They have a long history together, and that's a huge part of why she has a hard time letting him go. At the end of the day, she wants to be happy, and she genuinely wants Liam to be happy, too.”
“They're having a break right now because they needed it. It was a bad situation with a lot of disagreements,” another insider added. “They both agreed it's better to spend time apart, but this doesn't mean their relationship is completely over.”
Earlier this week, Miley hinted that new music is coming by posting a pic of herself in the studio.
Since their breakup, Miley has been linked to Brody Jenner's ex, Kaitlynn Carter, after they were spotted packing on the PDA in Lake Como, Italy.

After the photos surfaced, Brody wrote, “watch out! Pics of Liam and I holding hands on the beach coming soon.”
Miley clapped back at Brody's response, saying, “go take a nap in your truck and cool off #HotGirlSummer.”
Kaitlynn and Brody recently called it quits. It was revealed that they were never legally married, despite a wedding celebration in Indonesia last year.
As for her relationship with Kaitlynn, a source shared with People, “Miley is very close with Kaitlynn. It's romantic, but also a friendship. They are both going through similar stuff right now and are bonding over it.”
