Meryl Streep & Karl Lagerfield’s Fashion Spat Before the Oscars
Just days before the Oscars, famed fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld is calling out Meryl Streep for not wearing Chanel to the star-studded event.
He told Women's Wear Daily, "I made a sketch, and we started to make the dress.” While working on the dress, Lagerfeld claimed that Streep's team had a change of heart, informing him, "Don't continue the dress. We found somebody who will pay us.”
"After we gift her a dress that's 100,000 euros [$105,000], we found later we had to pay [for her to wear it],” Karl continued. "We give them dresses, we make the dresses, but we don't pay.”
After hearing about Lagerfeld's comments, Meryl's rep disputed his statements as false, telling THR that it is against Streep's personal ethics to be paid to wear an ensemble on the red carpet.
We'll have to see what Meryl ends up wearing at the Oscars on Sunday. She is nominated for the 20th time, for her work in “Florence Foster Jenkins.”
