What Taraji P. Henson Hinted About a Character Death in ‘Empire’ Season 3
“Extra's” AJ Calloway sat down with Taraji P. Henson on the set of “Empire” in Chicago, where she dished on the third season.
Rumors have been swirling that a character will die in the new season. Taraji confirmed the reports, saying, “Yeah, someone dies.”
As for how everyone in the cast found out about the character's death, she revealed, "They send us the script and then everybody's calling each other like… 'What? What? What?' And then you have to wait till September 21.”
Henson also chatted about co-star Terrence Howard, who just welcomed a new baby boy named Hero with wife Mira Pak. She said, "He's doing great. I don't know where he finds the energy. He has it. He goes home every weekend to see the babies. They are so cute.” Terrence and Mira are also parents to son Qirin, 15 months.
This season, Mariah Carey will be guest-starring as a mega-star named Kitty. Of Mariah's role, Taraji dished, “She plays a dear friend of mine. She is a performer and she is helping Jamal get through his difficulties.”
AJ also caught up with Jussie Smollett, who plays Jamal. Though he played coy on what will happen in the third season, he did reveal a fun tidbit about Mariah. When asked who took longer getting ready, Taraji or Mariah, Jussie shared, “Mariah! I'm not even gonna try and lie about that!”
Though Taraji is ready for the third season to premiere, she is feeling quite the opposite about the Emmys, which are handed out on September 18. Last month, Taraji nabbed an Emmy nomination in the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series category for her role as Cookie. She admitted, “I'm not ready for it yet.”
