Tiffany Haddish Reacts to Kanye West’s White House Meeting: ‘This Can’t Be Real’

Earlier today, the stars came out for Variety's Power of Women luncheon to help honor Tiffany Haddish, Natalie Portman, Regina King, and Lena Waithe for their activism, along with Emma Gonzalez, who survived the Parkland shooting.
“Extra's” Tanika Ray spoke with celebs on the red carpet, where they weighed in on hot topics, such as Kanye West's meeting with President Trump and the recent Judge Kavanaugh confirmation, as well as why this is such an important time for women.
Tiffany Haddish gave her take on watching Kanye in the Oval Office. “I thought it was a really messed up TV show, I was like, 'What show is this? This can't be real. It's got to be scripted.'”
As for women making their voices heard, Tiffany emphasized, “It's very important, because for so many years women weren't allowed to speak at all, weren't heard at all, and that is how we grow by sharing our stories with each other. I'm not the only one going thru this.”
Last month, Alyssa Milano shared her story of her own sexual assault to support Dr. Ford during the Kavanagh confirmation hearings. Of her reaction to his Supreme Court confirmation, she said, “I just have to translate all of the rage and emotion that I feel into empowering people to want to vote in the polls on November 6th.”
Milano had few words regarding Kanye and President Trump, commenting, “I refuse to even give it a platform. I feel like the reason why we are in the position we are in is we have normalized and excepted Trump and the circus, so I don't even know what happened yesterday.”
Natalie Portman, who was humbled to be honored with the rest of the women, noted it's an important time for activism. “It's an important moment to talk about with kids though, 'cause we need to question everything, and it's an important time not to take any power structures for granted, and question every power structure. And young people are doing that, and that's the silver lining in the moment we are living through... that it is sparking us all to be more active, more engaged, and more questioning.”
Lena Waithe, who posed with Natalie on the red carpet, sounded-off on Kanye. “We all got a family member like that, who loses their way and then at some point he's gonna be reminded he's black like the rest of us and he's going to come back... I think he's gonna come out of this and realize he was in the wrong and try to make amends, and I know us, as a people. If you all can be forgiving to R Kelly, 'cause that was criminal, Kanye's just crazy, we got to wait for that crazy to die down.”
