Shemar Moore on Final Text from 'Mentor' Kristoff St. John

Shemar Moore, still grieving the loss of his "brother" Kristoff St. John, his "The Young and the Restless" co-star who died in February, has opened up about a touching text he received from St. John — one that affected him deeply.

In a clip shared by "The Talk," Moore, 49, said, "It's sad to say goodbye, but we have to celebrate all that is good in his heart — his heart was huge for so many of us."

The text St. John sent him read, "Bro. On the real. I look up to you. What you have accomplished. You were a squeaky clean Lil boy, with stars in your eyes. Now you are the center of an entire solar system. You have survived against all odds. In a business that doesn't want US."

St. John priased his mentee as being "far beyond any black star that has graced TV in the last 50 years...except Denzel on St. Elsewhere. And even he, wasn't the actor, who exuded sex and charisma like you."

The ill-fated actor closed by urging, "Keep pressing. Keep grinding," and signed off with, "You are Shemar."

People magazine reports Moore told "The Talk" that St. John handpicked him in 1994 to play his younger brother on "The Young and the Restless," meaning, "Without him, I honestly wouldn't be in this business the way that I am — or maybe, not even at all."

Moore also said he has "cried and cried a lot" over his loss, but, "I don't want to cry anymore. I want to smile and laugh and remember him and never forget him and celebrate him for his goofy ways, talent, and professionalism."

St. John died of heart disease worsened by alcohol abuse as well as the effects of ethanol. His death at 52 was ruled an accident.
