The 6-Year Jump, Big Reunion and More: 'The 100' Cast Teases What’s Ahead in Season 5!
Fans of “The 100” can't wait to see their favorite characters reunite when the show returns to The CW for Season 5 on April 24.
ExtraTV.com caught up with the cast on the set in Vancouver, where they opened up to reporters about what's in store.
First, here is a little recap of where things left off: The finale wrapped with a nuclear apocalypse threatening the human race.
Bellamy, Raven, Murphy, Emori, Monty, Harper and Echo escaped to the Ark, while Octavia, Indra, Nathan, Abby, Kane and others took shelter in the bunker.
Clarke was still on the ground and attempting to turn on the power to the Ark. She barely escaped Praimfaya by taking refuge in Becca's lab.
At the close of the episode, the show jumps ahead six years, revealing Clarke is alive on the ground and living with a young companion named Madi. While she is still trying to make contact with the others, a transport ship arrives, later revealed to be prisoners!
So where is everyone when the show returns?
Eliza Taylor said that so far, Clarke has been living a “beautiful, peaceful life” with her “surrogate daughter"… that is, until the prisoners arrive. She explained, “They're not going to be pretty,” describing it as a role reversal. "She's the grounder who is being hunted.” Yikes!
Richard Harmon, whose character Murphy is part of the group on the Ark, wouldn't say much about the prisoners, but did hint that just like the Skaikru, Grounders and other groups on the show, “No one group is all just bad or all good. There are individuals in that group. You are going to get to know a lot of great, great new characters — just phenomenal actors that we've brought in this season — that have really upped all of our games.”
What about the group on the Ark? Bob Morley revealed Bellamy and the others are like a “family unit,” saying Bellamy heeded Clarke's advice of “using his head and his heart” to become a better leader. "Raven is like his second-in-charge," he went on. "Everyone runs things together. They always make decisions together. It's a nice community up there and it's definitely calmed [Bellamy] down from like fighting and killing people every other week.”
It sounds like it's all business between Raven and Bellamy, who had a romantic entanglement in the past. Lindsey Morgan explained, “There's always a certain love there,” but she insisted, “Nothing happened in the six years that I'm aware of.”
Morgan added that the relationship between Raven and Murphy has changed, too. Fans will recall that Murphy shot Raven in the leg in Season 1. “The six years was a long time and a lot of healing and Murphy became a different Murphy in the Ring. He became a team player and part of the family.”
Harmon shared his thoughts on the group, too, saying, “A lot of therapy can happen in six years, but that doesn't mean that new qualms with each other won't arise. We are going to have issues.”
Morgan said one source of tension was whether they should stay in space or return to Earth. “It's another rock-in-a-hard-spot situation,” she said, adding that once they do head back, it is a “Hail Mary kind of operation.”
Meanwhile, life is bad in the bunker. Jared Joseph, who portrays Nathan, called it, “Dark and nasty,” while praising their underground leader. “Octavia is a bad, bad little boss right now, so my loyalty is with her.”
Marie Avgeropoulos plays Octavia and talked about her struggles, saying, “There's a lot of old resentments among all the clans and old resentments don't die. So she has to come up with a very Octavia way to maintain order among the groups.”
She teased this foreboding tidbit: “Resources are running extremely low and actually come to a halt so we have to come up with a new tactic... of nutritioning our bodies.”
Luckily, she has her general Indra by her side. Adina Porter explained, “We get to spend a lot of time together since underground there aren't a lot of places you can go. I get to spend time with both my daughters, my faith-based flame keeper daughter Gaia, and my warrior daughter Octavia. So yes, we are still close.”
What about Abby and Kane? Adina confirmed they are still “leaders in their community” and “in love” while helping to create the “one crew” amongst the clans.
One thing the cast did reveal is that the gang will be back together at some point in the new season. Taylor gushed, “I can't wait for people to see the actual reuniting of the entire group. It's pretty cool.”
While things have definitely changed, they are still a family.
“A few have new loyalties, a few are the same. There's a couple in particular who are very, very different, but there's still going to be that bond and that sense of family,” Eliza promised.
Morley, however, warned, “Everyone's got their people now. There's a lot of the 'my people,' 'your people' stuff as per usual, but in this particular season, it's very definitive as to who people are loyal to, so that dictates where their relationship is and where it goes.”
Watch the premiere at 9 p.m. April 24 on The CW.
