Kanye West, During Campaign Kickoff, Reveals He and Kim Almost Aborted Daughter North
Taking the stage at an awkward campaign event in Charleston, South Carolina, Sunday, Kanye West made bizarre comments, turning off many who had turned out during a pandemic to support his uphill bid for the presidency.
Two weeks after claiming he was running for president — and in spite of the fact that his name will not appear on many states' ballots — West, 43, appeared at the Exquis Event Center in a bulletproof vest. He had a new 'do, too — with "2020" shaved into it.
Did Kanye West Just Drop Out of the Presidential Race?
View StoryWest got shockingly confessional on the topic of abortion, claiming his father wanted his mother to abort him, but, "My mother saved my life!"
People reports that West revealed that when Kim Kardashian first learned she was pregnant with their daughter North, the couple considered abortion.
"In the Bible, it says, 'Thou shall not kill,'" he said. "I remember that my girlfriend called me screaming and crying, and I was just thinking, because at that time I was a rapper I was out there, [had] different girlfriends and everything... and she said, 'I'm pregnant.' And I said, 'Yes!' And then I said, 'Uh-oh.'"
He claimed that Kardashian came close to terminating her pregnancy, saying, "She was crying… and for one month and two months and three months, we talked about her not having this child. She had the pills in her hand."
He told the crowd a message from God led to the decision for Kim to have North after all. "I'm in the apartment where my wife was actually robbed, and I have my laptop up and I have all of my creative ideas, I've got my shoes, I've got my next song cover… and the screen went black-and-white, and God said, 'If you f--- with my vision I'm gonna f--- with yours.' And I called my wife and she said, 'We're gonna have this baby,' and I said 'We're gonna have this child.'"
Sobbing, West blurted out, "I almost killed my daughter! I almost killed my daughter! I love my daughter!"
How is Kim Kardashian going to react to Kanye's stream-of-consciousness rant? Kanye himself doesn't think she will be thrilled! He noted, "Even if my wife wants to divorce me after this speech she brought North into the world even when I didn't want to."
Onstage for an hour-plus, the appearance left many cold, with West also proclaiming, "When Harriet Tubman — well, Harriet Tubman never actually freed the slaves, she just had the slaves go and work for other people." His slam against the legacy of the revered historical figure did not go over well. In one viral clip of this part of his speech, an audience member blurts out, "Yo, we leavin' right now," going instantly viral.
So far, West's campaign to be POTUS has been one of the least serious in history, from a dramatically late announcement on July 4 to his inability to get his name on the ballot in most places. West paid the $35,000 filing fee on the last possible date, so will appear on the ballot in Oklahoma. In South Carolina, where he was speaking, he would need to present signatures by July 20 at noon in order to appear on the ballot; no write-ins are allowed by state law.
West is running as a member of the newly created BDY (Birthday) Party, he told Forbes earlier this month, and no longer supports President Donald Trump.
As for speculation that he may split the traditionally Democratic Black vote, West said today, "The most racist thing that has ever been said out loud is the idea that if Kanye West runs for president, I'm going to split the Black votes. I don't give a f--- if I win the presidency or not… I am in service to God."
