Joseph Fiennes Cast to Play Michael Jackson in TV Dramedy
In the midst of the #OscarsSoWhite controversy, it has been announced that a white actor, Joseph Fiennes, will be playing the black King of Pop, Michael Jackson, in a new TV dramedy.
The movie, “Elizabeth, Michael and Marlon,” centers on the urban legend that megastars Elizabeth Taylor, Michael Jackson, and Marlon Brando took a road trip together after the September 11 attacks.
As the story goes, Liz and Marlon were in NYC to see Michael's 30th anniversary show at Madison Square Garden the night before the attacks. Afterward, all flights were grounded, so the trio decided to take a car cross-country on one of the most unlikely road trips of all time.
Stockard Channing will play Taylor and Brian Cox will portray Brando in the project, which is scheduled to air on the British Network Sky Arts sometime in 2016.
Jackson's family has yet to comment on the casting of Fiennes, a British actor, who is best known for his roles in “Shakespeare in Love,” “Elizabeth,” and “American Horror Story.”
