Reality Star Mike Thalassitis’ Cause of Death Revealed
Months after his body was found, new details have emerged about how former “Love Island” contestant Mike Thalassitis died.
The BBC reports the North London Coroner's Court has ruled that his cause of death was suicide, revealing that he left messages “which clearly set out his intention that his life should come to an end.”
According to an officer on scene, she found a notebook that contained “sort of combination of a diary and letters and positive thoughts” and “a number of notes that had been addressed to his family.”
The toxicology report indicated that cocaine, alcohol, and antidepressants were found in Thalassitis' system when he died.
After the results were released, his friend and “Love Island” co-star Montana Brown asked people to “be a little nicer, a little kinder.”
Speaking outside the court, Brown stressed, “I think it's important when someone dies in this way that you don't give up on the memory. I think a lot of people are scared to talk about it, but it is important to let his memory live on.”
“I have definitely changed the way that I live my life and I urge others to do the same,” Brown continued.
His family was also present at the inquest, saying, “Today's inquest concluded the sad news at the loss of our beautiful son and brother... Mike was a wonderful son and brother and will be dearly missed.”
Thalassitis was the second cast member of “Love Island” to take his own life; Sophie Gradon, who appeared on the show a year before him, died last year.
In March, it was reported that Thalassitis was found dead at a park in North London. Police arrived at the park after receiving reports of “a man found hanged.” Police spokeswoman Chioma Dijeh told USA Today, “At this early stage, the death is not being treated as suspicious.”
The 26-year-old appeared to be suffering before his death. Montana shared on Instagram, “I know you were in a dark place a few months back and I thought you were past it and that you were on the up. I got you to buy 'The Magic,' you wrote down your gratitudes, you had the pictures of your family in your car to remind you to be grateful for them. I just don't know how I didn't notice... I am absolutely heart broken that I couldn't help you."
“Love Island” alum Olivia Bowen Buckland tweeted, “His name is Mike Thalassitis. All the articles how dare you not use his real name. This is horrendous. I'm in shock. Mike you are going to be sorely sorely missed. My heart is with your family. I'm in complete shock."
“Love Island” host Caroline Flack added, “Mike... you were a total gentleman... I won't forget that ... it's so so sad ...you will be missed. RIP. ❤️.”
