Donald Glover & Emilia Clarke Reflect on Growing Up with ‘Star Wars’
Thursday night, “Extra's” Mario Lopez caught up with Donald Glover and Emilia Clarke at the Hollywood premiere of their new film "Solo: A Star Wars Story.”
Donald, who plays the iconic role of Lando Calrissian, shared, “[Lando] was the first toy I ever had. My dad bought it for me.” Donald pointed out that the original “Star Wars” film “really did change my life. It was such a good story. Being able to play Lando is a dream come true. I really don't take it lightly.”
Before making the movie, did he get a chance to meet the original Lando, played by Billy Dee Williams? Donald commented, “We spent an afternoon together, we had lunch. I came in with a lot of ideas, and he said, 'I don't know, just be charming!'”
Emilia Clarke described her character Qi'ra as “mysterious, but she's bad-ass.” When she learned she got the part, her brother, a huge “Star Wars” fan, “freaked out.” She remembered, “I watched them with him when I was a little kid.”
As a childhood fan, Emilia emphasized, “When this all got reignited, I was blown away... and now they put me in it and I freaked out as much as my brother.”
As for the final season of the HBO drama “Game of Thrones,” on which she stars as the dragon, Khaleesi, Emelia said, “I'm filming it right now. We're coming to the end of it.”
Lucasfilm's "Solo: A Star Wars Story" is in theaters May 25.
