ABC Announces 'Roseanne' Spin-Off 'The Conners'

A new “Roseanne” spin-off called “The Conners” (working title) is headed to ABC. The network announced the 10-episode series on Thursday.
The news comes after a “Roseanne” revival was canceled following a controversial tweet by star and executive producer Roseanne Barr.
The show will air Tuesdays at 8 p.m. and star cast members John Goodman, Laurie Metcalf, Sara Gilbert, Lecy Goranson and Michael Fishman.
The actors said in a joint statement, “We have received a tremendous amount of support from fans of our show, and it's clear that these characters not only have a place in our hearts, but in the hearts and homes of our audience. We all came back last season because we wanted to tell stories about the challenges facing a working-class family today. We are so happy to have the opportunity to return with the cast and crew to continue to share those stories through love and laughter.”
Meanwhile, ABC confirmed, “Roseanne Barr will have no financial or creative involvement in the new series.”
The network didn't reveal how the character Roseanne would be written off the show, only saying, “After a sudden turn of events, the Conners are forced to face the daily struggles of life in Lanford in a way they never have before.”
After the news broke, Barr's son Jake Pentland shared a photo of his mom giving the thumbs-up. He included the message, "Mom is great everyone. Taken just now."
