Is Clint Eastwood Supporting Donald Trump? Not So Fast!
“Extra's” AJ Calloway caught up with Clint Eastwood at the premiere of “Sully” in NYC, where he asked the director about his support of Donald Trump for President.
Eastwood has defended Trump in the past, telling Esquire, “I would have to go for Trump” over Hillary Clinton. He told AJ, however, “I haven't supported anybody, really. I have stayed out of it.”
Last month, Meryl Streep told Variety she planned to talk politics with her “Bridges of Madison County” director and co-star after learning about his Esquire interview.
“I didn't know that. I'll have to speak to him,” she said. “I'll have to correct that! I'm shocked. I really am. Because he's more — I would have thought he would be more sensitive than that.”
Eastwood told AJ that so far, he hasn't heard from Streep.
When AJ asked who he would cast in a movie about today's politics, Clint laughed and said, “It would be very difficult to cast both of those characters… We would have to find an Abbott and Costello.”
Clint also talked about making “Sully” starring Tom Hanks. Watch!
“Sully” opens in theaters September 9.
