Comedy Store Owner Mitzi Shore Dead at 87
Mitzi Shore, the owner of L.A.'s Comedy Store and mother of actor Pauly Shore, has died. She was 87.
The “godmother of comedy” had been battling Parkinson's disease, and had recently been in hospice care, according to the L.A. Times.

Pauly tweeted the news, writing, “Mom/Mitzi passed Early in the morning at 4.42 am she was 87 years old my heart lays heavy.”
The comedy club also shared news of her passing in an Instagram message: “It is with great sadness and very heavy hearts that we report the passing of Mitzi Shore. Mitzi was an extraordinary woman and leader who identified, cultivated and celebrated comedy's best performers.”
The statement continued, “She helped change the face of comedy and leaves behind an indelible mark and legacy in the entertainment industry and stand-up community. We will all miss her dearly.”

Mitzi opened the club in 1972 alongside her husband Sammy Shore and comedian Rudy DeLuca. When Mitzi and Sammy split in 1974, she took full ownership.
The Comedy Store was the launching pad and stomping grounds for many comics over the years, from Robin Williams to Jay Leno to Richard Pryor.
Mitzi was the mother of four children: Peter, Scott, Pauly and Sandy.
