Angels Pitcher Tyler Skaggs, 27, Found Dead
Tyler Skaggs, a pitcher for the Los Angeles Angels, was found dead in a hotel room in Texas on Monday, reports the L.A. Times. He was 27.
Southlake, TX police said in a statement that authorities received a call just after 2 p.m. of an unconscious man in a Hilton hotel room. “Officers arrived and found the male unresponsive, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.”
No foul play is suspected, but the death is under investigation.
Skaggs and the Angels were in Texas for a series against the Rangers that was set to launch today. The game has been postponed.
The Angels said in a statement, “It is with great sorrow that we report Tyler Skaggs passed away earlier today in Texas. Tyler has, and always will be, an important part of the Angels Family. Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife Carli and his entire family during this devastating time.”
Skaggs first landed with the Angels in 2009 as a first-round draft pick, and had played in the minor leagues. He was traded to the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2010, and continued in the minors until making his MLB debut in 2012. He was traded back to the Angels in the 2013-2014 off season.
